Donatella Versace has finally picked up on the fur-free fashion trend as she recently announced that fur is “out” for luxury brand Versace.

Donatella made the announcement in a recent interview with Luke Leitch for The Economist‘s 1843 magazine, stating that future collections will no longer feature real fur.

“Fur? I am out of that,” she said. “I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right.”

It’s a huge change for Versace, considering the brand’s website was recently featuring “fur-embellished coats that turn heads.” It’s certainly amazing progress!

There have been rumours of bigger changes, as well, that Versace may be looking into recruiting a new creative director to help take some of the tension off Donatella’s shoulders.

“Yes, I am Versace,” the designer continued. “But also Versace needs to mean change. And it needs to be an opportunity for others to express themselves.”

Major media outlets are even applauding Donatella’s move. “Donatella has moved toward a more politically driven, socially conscious agenda in the past few seasons, especially with her Spring 2018 clothes, which were printed with such words as unity, loyalty, courage, and love,” Vogue wrote. “And how fantastic would those looks be with a medusa-clad faux fur bomber jacket?”

Donatella and Versace join other designers and brands who have stopped using fur, including Giorgio Armani, Gucci, BCBG, Tommy Hilfiger, and Michael Kors, to name a few.
