SMCP Group’s ban on exotic skins comes after their decision to ditch fur.

French fashion group SMCP, who owns Sandro, Mage, and Claudie Pierlot, has decided to ditch exotic skins.

SMCP and its brands, which inspire “Parisian chic around the world,” have 1,466 outlets in 40 countries. Their ban on exotic skins marks their second move towards a more compassionate fashion industry, having banned fur last year.

PETA Director Elisa Allen stated: “Every item made out of exotic skins is a product of horrible suffering by the animals who were killed for it in gruesome ways, including some who were skinned alive while fully conscious.

“We applaud SMCP Group’s compassionate decision and encourage other brands to follow its example.”

SMCP Group joins the likes of Chanel, Jil Sander, Selfridge’s, Paul Smith, Diane von Furstenberg, Vivienne Westwood and Victoria Beckham, who have all ditched exotic skins.
