In today’s growing vegan world, there’s no doubt food businesses have been adding vegan-friendly options. In fact, media outlet Forbes wrote that if businesses want to survive in 2018, they’ll have to consider going vegan.

Now, to add to the growing vegan population, Swedish-founded and Dutch-based retailer IKEA is launching a 100% plant-based hot dog.

According to an announcement on Instagram, IKEA Food will be testing their new plant-based creation at their Malmö store, planning to launch it all across European locations in August.

According to Michael La Cour, Managing Director at IKEA Food: “Every year, 660 million people enjoy the IKEA Food offer, and we see this global reach as an opportunity as well as a responsibility to serve food that is good for people and the planet.”

La Cour also noted that their new plant-based product is not only ethical, but extremely delicious, as well.

“There is no point in creating a more sustainable option for our customers if it isn’t tasty.

“With this new veggie hot dog, we can inspire and enable customers to choose a plant-based, more sustainable option at an affordable price.”

However, IKEA confirmed in a comment that this is “a work in progress” as they cannot clarify that all of the additives in the prototype are vegan. Nevertheless, it will be a marvellous creation once it has been cleaned up.

During the summer of 2016, IKEA launched a food truck in the United States that sold meatballs, including a veggie option. Many people are excited to see what IKEA will come up with next!
