The Beyond Burger is a hit in the United States; everybody wants to get a taste of this vegan burger that “bleeds” beetroot juice – and more people can, now that Beyond Meat is expanding to the UK!
The Beyond Burger is just like meat – minus the cruelty. It is sold in meat aisles across US food stores and is packed with protein and iron. Available since 2016, this patty has gone mainstream.
Beyond Meat’s chairman, Seth Goldman, first announced the company’s expansion while speaking at the Compassion in World Farming conference, organized by animal rights campaigners. He described the expansion as a “profound opportunity” for plant-based protein.
“In the case of the UK, we have strategically decided this is a priority market,” Goldman said. “We want to find significant partners to go to sale quickly.”
Goldman said that the company has planned the launch to occur some time during the first quarter of 2018, with more emphasis on the UK retail and foodservice areas.
Beyond Meat also recently announced a partnership with major American food retailer Sysco, who distributes and sells food to public facilities, including schools, restaurants, hotels, hospitals and healthcare facilities. The Beyond Burger also sells in Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest consumers of meat.
This expansion proves that plant-based proteins are becoming more and more popular. The Beyond Burger contains 20g of protein, competing well with the average meat-based burger. Last year, plant-based foods topped $5 billion in sales, and plant-based meats alone topped $606 million.
