InStyle Becomes First Fashion Magazine to Ban Fur

Major fashion magazine InStyle has decided to go fur-free, meaning that nothing with fur can be featured in their issues.

The announcement was made by InStyle‘s editor-in-chief, Laura Brown, via Instagram on Tuesday.

“I want to be clear that InStyle does not photograph fur – nor do we accept advertising from fur brands. How thrilling that the fashion industry is beginning to embrace fur-free alternatives,” Brown announced on social media.

 

Good morning! Since I started at @instylemagazine, we have not photographed or endorsed fur. But after doing a panel with the @humanesociety, I’ve written about it on my May editor’s letter. The tide is turning towards fur-free alternatives in the fashion industry, and we’re proud to be a part of it. Onward!

And to celebrate the amazing announcement, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will be sending Brown chinchilla-shaped vegan chocolate.

It’s great that the fashion industry is embracing the fact that fur is not luxurious. Maybe it’s time to see other trends emerge, such as more animal-free makeup.
