Katherine Von Drachenberg (a.k.a. Kat Von D), founder of Kat Von D Beauty, has decided to make major changes, transforming her products into 100% vegan merchandise.
It was first stated in an issue of Laika, a vegan magazine, that Kat Von D was totally redoing her beauty line.
“We have been reformulating anything that had carmine in the past, and if we can’t reformulate, we just throw them out,” said Kat Von D. “I can live without purple eye shadow, it’s fine.”
Kat Von D also stated: “When I launched [the line,] I was not sober; I was not vegan. So I had no idea about ingredients in formulation. I would always think it was funny when brands would be like ‘Oh, we’re vegan’. Yeah, well, you don’t eat lipstick. [I was] super ignorant, you know?”
This is a great step forward for vegans because of how successful Kat Von D’s beauty line is; people can explore more vegan options now. Jasmine Singer, author of Always Too Much and Never Enough, stated: “And, let’s face it as Kat Von D has realized, it’s just as important to get rid of animal ingredients. If it’s not vegan, it’s not cruelty-free.”
Kat Von D Beauty has always been praised for never testing on animals, while offering a wide range of vegan products. It’s even better now that the whole line is going vegan.
