Vegan doughnut and coffee shop Dough Society is opening a location in London, England!
Created by husband and wife team Lauren and Ed, Dough Society features their doughnuts at Hackney Downs Studio and at the new Broadway Vegan Market. Now, they’re opening a permanent location that will feature 20 doughnut flavours (plus seasonal varieties).
The permanent shop is set to open this month and can seat 35 people. It will also house an exclusive kitchen.
“We always dreamed of having a coffee shop ‘one day’ but had no idea we would end up with a coffee and doughnut shop so soon, let alone a vegan one!” Lauren told metro.co.uk.
“A few friends pushed us to do a vegan fair at The Dogstar [in Brixton] about 18 months ago and I was so nervous we wouldn’t sell anything at all.
“We sold out of 100 doughnuts in under an hour and were kind of speechless. I think that’s when we realized there was a gap in the market and a lot of like-minded people after a dirty treat!”
In addition, they’ll be featuring vegan cheese toasties to compliment the savoury doughnuts. And once they’ve settled down, Lauren and Ed are considering serving vegan brunch, which includes doughnut French toast.

Lauren also says that she believes the vegan scene has “changed massively.”
“We are originally form Southampton so London was like a vegan mecca for us with so many options, but even in the last few years with veganism on the up it’s so much easier to find options, with Hackney seeming to be at the heart of it all,” she continued.
“There were already a few places in Hackney but with Hackney Downs Vegan Market and some epic savoury food businesses popping up recently it’s an exciting place to be.”
Dough Society will open on January 17 at 11 Dispensary Lane, Hackney Central, E8 1FT. To celebrate their opening, Dough Society will be giving away free doughnuts to the first 100 customers on January 20.
