The one fruit that is taking over the vegan scene is jackfruit. Considering this trend, an entire “Jackfruit Cafe” opened in the historical West Adams neighbourhood of Los Angeles for vegans and meat eaters alike.
The eatery, located in King’s Donuts, features dishes made with jackfruit, a starchy fruit native to southeast Asia. It is an excellent source of fibre, gives a sweet aroma, and is most commonly used as a substitute for polled pork.
So far, the eatery has received amazing reviews and was rated 4.5 stars on Yelp.
Some menu items include: Fried Jackfruit Fish Wrap with Mango Salsa and Fries ($6.75); Asian Jackfruit Tostada with Spicy Cucumber Salad ($6.75); and Jackfruit Pulled Pork with Slaw and Pinto Beans ($6.75).
