Melania Trump is arguably the queen of fur. You may have had the chance to see her dressed in luxury fur coats and hats – or at least you used to be able to.
According to a White House Representative, Melania Trump has decided to go fur-free after receiving a faux-fur coat from famed vegan model, actress and activist, Pamela Anderson.
“She does not wear fur,” Trump’s East Wing communications director Stephanie Grisham said in an email.
Melania even sent a nice thank you note to Pamela Anderson for her gift. She wrote:
I very much appreciate your sending the beautiful eco-faux fur from Only Me.
I am grateful for your support and encouraging words; they mean a great deal. Together, we can empower more women to stand up for their beliefs.
Thank you for your thankful note and gift.
Anderson sent the first lady a present (a faux-lamb fur coat with a vegan belt) in February, thanking her for wearing the blue Ralph Lauren outfit on Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day. Ralph Lauren stopped using fur back in 2007. Anderson personally wrote:
I am so happy that you chose not to wear fur! As first lady, you will help set style trends, and by remaining compassionate with your choices, you will warm the hearts of many.
Melania has received much praise for her kind letter in response to the gift from people including the People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), whom Anderson is an honorary director of.
“Melania first attended a PETA fashion show years ago that featured one of her favourite designers, Marc Bouwer, a longtime PETA supporter who uses no fur, leather or exotic skins in his collections,” PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews said in a statement. “More recently, Pamela Anderson sent elegant Melania a stylish faux fur, as well as a video showing how animals are cruelly killed in the wild and on fur farms, so it’s no surprise that she is now fur-free, following in the footsteps of so many fashion icons and first ladies.”
It is unknown when exactly Melania went fur-free, but it’s known for sure that her wise decision is being celebrated amongst many animal-rights activist, vegans, and others alike!
