Vegans, rejoice! London’s first vegan pub, The Spread Eagle, is opening its doors on Homerton High Street.

The pub is set to officially open on Friday, January 19, and co-owners Meriel Armitage and Luke McLaughlin promise it’s the city’s first 100% vegan pub.

“Being a vegan is not just about food,” Armitage told Evening Standard. “It’s what you’re drinking, what you’re sitting on, what you’re wearing.”

The Spread Eagle will serve vegan beers alongside Mexican food from Armitage’s brand, Club Mexicana. You wouldn’t want to miss out on their jackfruit tacos! And to take the experience up another level, the pub will also be working with local breweries, such as Beavertown, to serve specially-crafted beers.

But the drink menu doesn’t stop there. According to Armitage, they will also serve a range of 100% vegan, small batch wines and special cocktails.

Locals agree that it’s about time London gets an all-vegan pub, considering one of Europe’s vegan hubs is London. In addition, more than half a million people in the UK are vegan.

This pub is something Armitage and McLaughlin are definitely proud of. Considering beer brewers typically use gelatin, egg whites or isinglass during the clarification process, it’s pretty hard to come up with plant-based alternatives. Nevertheless, people nowadays are making it possible with their modern food innovations.

The Spread Eagle will open on January 19 at 224 Homerton High St, E9 6AS with a soft launch period between January 12 and 18. 20% off discount will be given during soft launch.
