Forks over Knives Video on a Typical American Diet

Even though the United States of America is one of the most successful countries in the world, its standard diet is worse than we thought.

Today, many Americans are dying from this standard diet and are getting several diseases. However, what is the reason behind this? Well, let’s take a look at what the standard American diet has to offer.

To begin, 63% of calories comes from refined and processed foods. In fact, these are considered “empty calories” and do not benefit an individual whatsoever.

Secondly, 25% of calories come from animal-based foods and products. This is sad, as food that comes from animals is a recipe for disease!

Thirdly, only 12% of calories comes from plants. This is already bad, as plants contain many of the necessary nutrients that our body needs. However, it gets even worse; half of that 12% comes from fries! Therefore, only 6% of calories that Americans consume come from healthy fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and beans.

After taking a look at these statistics, we can see that the United States of America is not rich at all in plants and healthy foods. It is about time that Americans take into consideration these numbers and decide to incorporate more veggies, fruits and legumes into their diet not only because it is necessary, but because it is much healthier.
