Elmhurst Dairy has found the light in the food industry. After permanently closing due to the fact that they could not keep up with consumer trends, they have decided to switch over to nut-based milks.

Now called Elmhurst, the company has debuted their new line of milks “For the most discerning nutmilk connoisseur.” Their new line, called “Milked,” debuted at the Natural Foods Expo West in Anaheim, California last March and will soon be available online and in stores across the US.

The nut-based milks come in four different flavours: Almond, Cashew, Walnut and Hazelnut and only contain raw cold-milled nuts and simple ingredients. In addition, no emulsifiers, thickeners, whiteners or frankenfood proteins are used.

This amazing switch reflects the dairy industry’s status in the modern world. Not only are cows cruelly treated in this  industry, but dairy also has a negative impact on our health and the environment. As Schwartz notes, “milk has sort of gone out of style” – and for the right reasons.
