Over the last year, New York City has proven itself to be one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the United States. From vegan tapas to all-vegan French cuisine, NYC is a vegan haven. But did you know that you can also indulge in dairy-free yogurt bowls?

Earlier this season, dairy-free yogurt concept concept Broken Coconut opened its doors in NYC’s NoHo neighbourhood. They feature coconut-based yogurt delights that are not only dairy-free, but also honey-free and packed with probiotics and protein.

But what makes this place unusually interesting is that they don’t just serve yogurt in plain store-bought cups; they offer them in the form of “yogurt bowls” or the popular smoothie bowls. Customers also have the choice to top their yogurt bowls with dragon fruit, chia seeds, or coconut flakes.

The menu was created by Cobi Levy, owner of New York City restaurants Black Seed Bagels and Babu Ji, alongside certified nutritionist Molly Rieger.

“A focus on health and wellness has played a huge part of my life the past few years, and I’m excited to embark into a new realm of hospitality that mirrors my current interests,” said Broken Coconut co-founder Scott Sartiano. “With Broken Coconut, we will utilize our hospitality experiences to create a destination to food conscious urban bohemians – featuring an eye-catching environment, comfortable seating and guilt-free food options. Eating better doesn’t mean dieting nor does require sacrificing flavour.”

Broken Coconut is located at 15 East 4th Street, between Lafayette and Broadway.
